The design of your college dorm room is more crucial than you think. This is the place where you will be spending the next 4 years of your life. For this reason, it deserves to be well thought out. You don’t need to spend a million bucks to make it happen. Here are 5 great dorm room ideas you can do on a low budget.

      1. Redo the Entry to Your Room

The logical place to start for your dorm room will be the entry. You can take a cue from the entrances of luxury apartments in Ventura, CA. These are excellent sources of inspiration to do your room up right from top to bottom. You can cover up your door with foil to make it appropriate from a seasonal standpoint. You can also paint it or adorn it with a wreath, flags, or other decorative elements. You can use putty to mount a whiteboard, where people can leave messages for you. A well-dressed door will give the perfect welcome.

      2. Decorate Your Bedroom in Grand Fashion

The next place for you to focus on should be your bedroom. This is the place where you are bound to spend the bulk of your time. For this reason, it needs to be as comfortable and welcoming as possible. You can start by making sure the walls are well decorated with plenty of catchy design elements, such as posters.

Your wardrobe area should come next. Hang a couple of baskets above this area in order to give it some much-needed definition. Try mounting a clothes hook over your door. This will open up the area by letting you keep clothing items in a convenient place. Your room will suddenly be a great deal more open and comfy.

From there, you can move to make sure that your bed is situated in the most convenient place. You want to have plenty of legroom to move around in. Try to vary the colors and shapes of all of your decorative elements. This will give your room plenty of eye-catching variety. It’s all good as long as it blends in.

      3. Make Sure the Lighting Arrangement is Right

The next area to take care of should be the lighting in your room. There is no need for you to change out your whole lighting system. Instead, you can focus on replacing your old-fashioned light bulbs with new ones. The newer style bulbs are far less bright and harsh. They will also save a lot of energy and money.

      4. Liven Up Your Kitchen in Dorm Style

Don’t forget your kitchen while you are livening up the rest of the area. This is one of the most visited and used rooms in your dorm. You can quickly freshen it up by making space for a lot of exciting new elements. If you aren’t happy with your standard dorm fridge, why not add a mini-fridge to pick up the slack?

While you’re at it, you can add another fresh new room design element via washi tape. You can use tape to give your fridge and cabinets all kinds of stripes and other designs. It’s a great way to add a bit of variety to your static room surfaces.

      5. Set Some Room Aside for an Office

Chances are that most of the time spent in your dorm will involve doing homework. You can set aside a bit of room in your personal area to become your office. This will make it a lot easier to take care of your business.

Add a desk lamp and a few necessities like paperweights, staplers, and the like. Make sure your PC or tablet has space to sit on your desk. Get yourself an ergonomic chair that is comfy for you to sit in.

DIY Room Design is the Way to Go

There is no need for you to spend a lot of money to liven up your room. You can make use of a wide variety of DIY tips to give your living area a fresh new spin. These tips are super easy to afford and make use of. You can adapt them to give even the stodgiest room a welcoming look that will appeal to your visitors.
